Charmal (Charmal)

Due to the really poor amount of artworks posted on Pixiv, I wasn’t really sure about featuring this artist in the JA category. However, the art is so great that it would’ve been a shame not to talk about it.
Charmal’s art is an exquisite display of simple-colored characters, and because the choice of colors is usually very limited, your eye focuses exclusively on how things are drawn. That is when you realize that his/her artworks are stunning, and that there is a lot of work behind them, even though the coloring is kept simple.


The characters all give a very “mature” feeling, and I personally am quite fond of this style, as it is quite rare to come across such artworks on Pixiv (proportionally speaking).
If you like the style, Sankaku has a lot more of his/her artworks than Pixiv.

Fal Maro (ファルまろ)

This style feels a bit like a painting-style version of Nilitsu‘s artworks. Fal Maro’s works used to be more on the “classic” side (cf. pictures 4 & 5), with a common way of coloring characters and stuff. However, he recently changed his style to a more “painted” approach, and the results are as you see (cf. pictures 1, 2 & 3). He clearly has progressed a lot since he first started on Pixiv, and the actual pictures are quite good stuff!



Lots of Touhou artworks with this one, though I’m not really surprised about that. Fal Maro’s current artworks can easily recognized by the characters’ head shape, slightly more “oval” that your classic drawing. There also is a noticeable “crisp/noise” effect on the pictures, which is quite an unusual addition… but why not.

Fuzichoco (藤原)

One of my personal favorites. Most of you have already seen some of Fuzichoco’s works, but as it would be rude of me not to present one of Pixiv’s most notorious artists, I just had to make this post.
Her works feature a delicious mix of bright pastel colors, along with a rich and detailed environment. Her choice of colors was a bit more on the tame side not too long ago, but her new palette of colors produces much better artworks in my opinion. Her sense of perspective is also very sharp, and you can really feel the vastness of the backgrounds.
Fuzichoco’s works were already featured in several real-life products, the most recent (as far as I know) one being a package illustation for WACOM’s Bamboo Manga Tablet. Artworks are usually released in high resolution, perfect for wallpapers as well!

Re:N Ne (Re:N根)

Featured multiple times on PotDs, Renkon’s (let’s call him like that) style does not shine by its originality but rather by its end result. This kind of style has been widely featured before (with similar artists like Mikazuki Sara, for example).
What I like with Renkon is his subtle usage of glows here and there on his artworks, which gives a really nice plus to the render (Pic 2 being the best example). They’re not always easy to spot, but they’re often present.

Aside from that, coloring is good, backgrounds are mid-complex but not neglected, characters are well drawn but can be very slightly out of proportions from time to time (legs especially).
Given how young this artist is (student, 21 y/o), this is pretty awesome already. He’ll probably do some great stuff in a few more years!

Orga (orga)

A rather pronounced painting art style with Orga, who’s using large brushes to shape his artworks. Not the kind of style I enjoy in large quantities due to its crude choice of colors but still, the final render can be quite appealing to the eye. His style is rather easy to recognize due to its recurring choice of colors. Another, less noticeable trait would be the position in which the characters are drawn, which is often.. errr.. how do you say that.. sitting with a 3/4 facing position? Well, something like that !

La-na (La-na)

I like this kind of artist, because they hold a lot of potential. Despite being young (high school student), La-na has quite a style of his/her own already. The proportions are sometimes a bit awkward, depending on the character’s position (can’t be helped, this requires experience). La-na’s artworks mostly feature kawaii girls (no real surprise here, I guess), and his/her style can easily be spotted by taking a look at the characters’ mouths : large, open mouths, with a slight pink color for the lips.

The coloring is pretty nice overall and, one thing worth noting, is La-na’s sense of fashion : Clothes are usually quite stylish and give a real nice plus to the final result. The style is still a bit rough but this will surely change, given enough time. Someone to keep an eye on!

Sanntouhei (三等兵)

Another artist that I’ve never featured on the blog yet. As you can guess by the different artworks displayed here, Sanntouhei is a big fan of the Touhou universe (oh, what a surprise again!).
You can easily recognize his/her artworks by the shape of the face (quite large), the way the skin is colored (especially the face) and the color palette used (recurring colors in every artwork).


I find Sanntouhei’s style to be quite original despite the theme he chose to work on, mainly because of his/her peculiar way of drawing characters. The colors produce great results despite being always the same ones, and while there are artists with a much higher level of detail on artworks out there, Sanntouhei definitely isn’t far behind.
Last but not least, artworks are published in high res and in PNG : What more can you ask for?

Reigokoro (礼心)

Now here’s a rather discreet Pixiv artist that only a few of you may have heard about. I’ve never featured him on a PotD either, which doesn’t help.
Simply put, Reigokoro is an exceptional artist who has a great sense for details, and who exposes it clearly by publishing artworks in very high resolution. Each picture has a lot to tell, and a lot to explore and enjoy : So many details to look at !



You’ll notice a strong presence of ruins and ivy in most of his artworks. This and the rest gives a pretty nice Fantasy feeling to each of his works.
While Reigokoro suffers from the classic “great artist, few publications” syndrome, he’s definitely someone you’d want to keep an eye on.

Takoyaki (タコ焼き)

Very old Pixiv member, Takoyaki is another one of my favorites. He’s another one of these artists with a light painting style, but this one’s rather discreet compared to other artists with a similar style.

I like Takoyaki because he has good tastes with characters’ poses, does very well with body proportions, and has an interesting choice of colors and a lighting effects on pictures. The results are warm and cute pictures, overall quite enjoyable.



His Pixiv profile is rather poor, but don’t get fooled : He has published numerous artbooks under his circle’s name, “Kogemashita” (about 17 I think).
Overall, a rather delicious artist, just as his name suggests!

LM7 (_LM7_)

Mix a little bit of 86thunder with a good dose of Iori, and you obtain LM7.

If I had to sum up my impressions of this artist, I’d say “Half res. only”. LM7′s artworks are quite nice to look at. But if peek at full res, it’s really.. rough. Not always, but often.
Nonetheless, LM7′s stuff is quite good, with pleasant sceneries to look at for some of them. I’d love to see more “polished” versions of his/her artworks, but unfortunately that’s not how the author does things
