Guess what, painting style.

Mikebosi (mikebosi)

Mikebosi is a rather discreet Pixiv artist. Truth is, he/she doesn’t make a lot of Pixiv publications, so this explains that. Still, Regulars might remember a recent PotD that featured this artist !
While I like what he/she does, I think Mikeboshi doesn’t make full use of his/her potential : Artworks look a bit “unfinished” on some parts, and would’ve been much better with a little more effort. For example, some strong lines remain in some places while all the rest blends very well with the background.

I feel like the artist draws & colors “on a whim” rather than focusing too intensively on an artwork each time.
Well, Mikebosi is still a student (20-year-old) so he/she probably has other preoccupations. If you’ve followed other JA posts featuring painting styles, you’ll probably agree that this one has nothing too “special” about it (but it’s still very good!). I find characters quite fashionable, with stylish gothic dresses and stuff. Imo, Mikebosi is an artist with a lot of latent potential, and I can’t wait to see what he/she will bring us with some more practice.

Fo~do (Ford). Regulars might remember this artist , whose first picture featured here was posted in a PotD quite some time ago.
Unlike most artists with a similar theme, Ford likes to focus on urban sceneries rather than pure Nature-oriented pictures. In my opinion, the level of detail on elements is a bit low (a lack of work on the “texture” side), but the overall scenery is gorgeous to see. Seems like Ford is trying to work on that flaw, as his latest works are much more detailed than the previous ones (mostly new ones featured here).

Amemura (飴村)

Also known as Caramelo, Amemura has been featured in several PotD in the very early days of Neregate (for some of you who still remember). There’s a strong presence of Nature in his works, so you’re likely to see trees, plants, and vast skies most of the time. The style is a light-painting one again. You’ll also notice that characters are often the only thing drawn using strong black lines and thick contours. This makes them stand out from the background, while remaining discreet and blended with the whole picture. Overall result is quite pleasant, and gives a nice “peaceful” impression.

Ryosios (Ryosios)

Ryosios is a big Touhou fan. While I have no particular interest in Touhou, his artworks are definitely worth mentioning. Ryosios’ works are a ballet of colors and light effects, with a strong picture perspective/depth (the background). Seems like he doesn’t wan to place characters in narrow places and prefers wide, as-far-as-your-eye-can-see areas.
What’s really amazing is that he excels in both background and characters alike, with a complex coloring on top of that.

The result is kinda amazing each time, and it’s released in PNG format, so you can enjoy the art without a loss. Resolution may vary, but it’s usually decent.
Many more artworks on his Pixiv profile, which is definitely worth a look.

Not your usual Pixiv artist.

Ryokuryuu (緑龍)

Now here comes a very special, yet very interesting artist that I’m sure you’ve never heard of.
Ryokuryuu does not make original artworks. Instead, he picks pictures from other artists and reproduces them using a pencil with a “simple” line drawing and coloring style.
The end result may look plain because of the monochrome aspect, but if you take a closer look you’ll be amazed on how well Ryokuryuu does in converting a picture to his style.

Afterwards, he takes a precision knife to cut the lines he drew and uses the result to make things like patterns to put on glass, that kind of stuff.
I’m not sure about the whole process, but it’s something along those lines.
I also believe he’s a great artist for those of you who like to draw : As the lines are pretty clean, it’s a good way to learn how to shape stuff.
Below most of his pictures on Pixiv, you’ll find the original picture used to make one you see. It’s also a great way to discover other artists.
I invite you to visit his Pixiv profile, which has much more stuff to enjoy and, most of all, the original pictures for each of his works : To understand how good the artist is, you need to see the original pic.

A focus on landscapes again.

Sakimori (防人)

Sakimori is a rather discreet artist, despite his numerous Pixiv publications (350+). His works usually feature a character alone, or a landscape with one or more character.
Spotting Sakimori’s artworks is rather easy, as he has a very unique way of drawing characters.

For landscape pictures, he has a rather unusual “signature” which consists of drawing a wide landscape, then placing one character in the middle or on a side, to reinforce the perspective and vastness feeling you get.
These aren’t the best works you can find in that kind of category but still, it’s definitely good.
Many more artworks on his Pixiv profile. The resolution of his works vary a lot from one pic to another, but it’s usually high res.
Featuring characters from popular series.

Wingheart (wingheart)

Another artist whose artworks focuses on characters rather than backgrounds. Hopefully she does a very good job with the former. I “think” it is a “she” due to her personal tastes described on her profile, but I’m not completely sure.
Anyway, Wingheart’s artworks are easy to recognize because of the coloring methods (multicolored-eyes for example), thin drawing lines, glowing areas, a lot of relief for clothes and a lot of lines for hair.
Wingheart has improved a lot in a very short time span (cf. Pixiv). Her actual style is very pleasant already (and in high-res too). If she continues to refine her techniques, this’ll be a bliss.

You’ll notice that the artist likes to draw characters popular in anime series or games.
The 5th picture is some kind of an extra, as it’s never been posted on any imageboard yet, nor on Pixiv.

Nilitsu’s artworks are not easy to differentiate from the rest, as there is no real drawing or coloring pattern (except maybe the pupils, which usually consist of a white circle filled with a single color). Pictures’ colors are usually vivid but not too bright, and fits together quite well.
Nilitsu’s focus is mostly on the character side, so the backgrounds are usually quite generic. The focused side is quite good though, with good proportions and coloring.
Nothing really outstanding but still, a pretty good artist.
One of Pixiv’s most respected artists.

Radu (憂)

Radu is.. a legion on his own. I’ve come across and bookmarked hundreds of artists on Pixiv, but among all of those I’ve seen, few can be compared to Radu, both in terms of skills and style.
Radu is fond of those sceneries you’d see in fairy tales, as well as large, detailed frescoes (that are absolutely gorgeous).

The amount of work and detail in many of his artworks is pretty insane : There is so much for your eyes to see that you do not know where to start looking!
Sometimes (often for his frescoes), Radu publishes individual pictures that, when put together, form a fresco : This is where you realize how sick his artworks are, and how much skill the artist possesses.

Not knowing this artist is pretty much a blasphemy, so I encourage you to visit both his “Door of Arcadia” website and Pixiv profile : You definitely won’t regret it

Taka (TAKA)

I believe this is the first time that I feature an artist using a charcoal/chalk style for his artworks. Taka originally didn’t start with this kind of render, but progressively changed his style to achieve what you’re seeing here.
The end result is surprisingly interesting and pretty to look at. I haven’t come across other artists with that kind of style either. Taka has a special way of drawing faces (round-shaped) and rendering his artworks, so it’s quite easy to recognize his works.
The sad point is that he rarely publishes on Pixiv, so do not expect lots of content from him. He doesn’t have many ratings from users either, which is a shame because he definitely deserves better scoring.
