GtA results from last week’s second session :
AzNKid, Chippychap, Delti, Hobbit and N1ghthaunter managed to find this fantastic, terrific, awesome anime, named Sasami : Magical Girls Club!

This anime is so bad, even the seiyuus fail (yes, it’s possible!).
It’s watchable but seriously, avoid like plague.

There was a little trick to the sample, as it was from the English version of the anime’s opening, and not the Japanese one (the OP is probably the only decent thing in this anime).

It’s pretty rare to have a good English version of an anime’s Opening theme ! Lauren Claire was a good choice here.
English version first, then Japanese version :

And the worst thing is, we had 5 people who knew this anime (or maybe some of you just looked it up) ! You guys really watch weird stuff, you know?
.
.
.
Wait.. I watched it too :(

Japanese Artists – Radu

One of Pixiv’s most respected artists.

Radu (憂)

Radu is.. a legion on his own. I’ve come across and bookmarked hundreds of artists on Pixiv, but among all of those I’ve seen, few can be compared to Radu, both in terms of skills and style.
Radu is fond of those sceneries you’d see in fairy tales, as well as large, detailed frescoes (that are absolutely gorgeous).

The amount of work and detail in many of his artworks is pretty insane : There is so much for your eyes to see that you do not know where to start looking!
Sometimes (often for his frescoes), Radu publishes individual pictures that, when put together, form a fresco : This is where you realize how sick his artworks are, and how much skill the artist possesses.

Not knowing this artist is pretty much a blasphemy, so I encourage you to visit both his “Door of Arcadia” website and Pixiv profile : You definitely won’t regret it ;)

As a general rule, I’ll never post more than 5 pictures of an artist when I feature him/her.

The new “Guess this Anime” Scoreboard is here

After some PHP/SQL struggle, the new GtA Scoreboard is now live and populated. New statistics have been added :

  • Participation Rate :
Number of times you participated | Total number of GtA sessions.
  • Local Accuracy :
Your Score / Number of times you participated.
  • Global Accuracy :
Your Score / Total number of GtA sessions.
  • Current Streak :
Number of times you got it right in a row (a wrong guess brings that number back to zero).
  • Maximum Streak :
Your highest streak of right answers in a row, ever. Try to beat it!

  • Additionally, you can sort a column in ascending or descending order by clicking on its header (small Up and Down arrows).

Default sorting is by score. People with an identical score appear in a randomized order at each pageload, for fairness. These different statistics will bring more challenge to the GtA, as you’ll have different ways of reaching the “top” (one or more columns). I doubt someone can stay on top for all the statistics, but we never know!

If you think something is bugged or if you encounter a problem, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Feedback and/or Critics are also welcome.

The new Scoreboard can be visited at this page.
    Happy GtA ;)

I’ll be announcing the GtA results this Tuesday, along with the new scoreboard and statistics. I’m done coding the whole thing, now I just need to make the display a little bit fancier.
The new GtA is already on the sidebar for you to try. Something easy to start the week !

Let’s try something kitsch on the Beat of the Week with the long version of Sweetholic, High Score‘s ED theme. Exceptionally, the track is 320kbps, because the quality was way too poor under that bitrate (and even with 320, it still isn’t as good as I’d expected it to be), so beware of the file size.

There hasn’t been much content lately. I must admit that I’m getting quite lazy these days.
I’ll compensate with a very nice JA post later 8)

    Have a great week !

Below are the results for the first GtA session of this week :
-Wazabii-, Auro, AzNKid, DisturbedTK, Erulim, Eureka, flat, frosttz, John Smith, Kurai, Lawrence Leong, masajus, McClenzy, naok, Negi, Raitsui, rtrs, Shiroux, Srph, Unmei no Teki and Zonz got the right answer, which was Rinne no Lagrange.

I’m done coding my parsing tool for the GtA, though the front and back end of the blog implementation still need some work. New scoreboard will be available a bit later.

EDIT : Fixed a bug in my tool, thanks arnfear :3

    That IxB SS 03..

*Cough* Anyway, I’ll be announcing the GtA results tomorrow, once I’m done coding my client (which will save me a lot of time when parsing your submissions).
Looks like I trapped less people than I expected :/

Now, I know you found the first one too easy. But.. I wouldn’t live up to this sadistic nature of mine if I didn’t put something challenging, which is what I’ll be doing with the second GtA of this week!
The sample could’ve been way harder, but nobody would’ve guessed it.
Finding this one will surely give you a point advantage, so good luck

Started looking for a new blog theme, and as I thought, good themes with dynamic width are quite rare.
Adapting the blog content’s quantity according to the client’s working area would probably require some coding. Not sure I can work it out, but I’ll have a look.

    Japanese Artists – Taka

Featuring a new style this time.

    Taka (TAKA)

I believe this is the first time that I feature an artist using a charcoal/chalk style for his artworks. Taka originally didn’t start with this kind of render, but progressively changed his style to achieve what you’re seeing here.
The end result is surprisingly interesting and pretty to look at. I haven’t come across other artists with that kind of style either. Taka has a special way of drawing faces (round-shaped) and rendering his artworks, so it’s quite easy to recognize his works.
The sad point is that he rarely publishes on Pixiv, so do not expect lots of content from him. He doesn’t have many ratings from users either, which is a shame because he definitely deserves better scoring.

The “Guess this Anime” game is back on the right sidebar. Because some of you may be rusted, I made sure to take an easy one for this first half of the week. I’ll update the score page for the new year a bit later.

Beat of the week changed to “Ice Symphony”. Great stuff.

Horizon’s OST is out, if you didn’t know. It had been pushed back by a month.
Nothing special to say this time, so I guess I’ll just get back to work ;)

    Have a nice week!
